Promise dollars go unused for Kalamazoo graduate balancing life as a mom

A Kalamazoo native, Aaliyah Buchanan graduated from Kalamazoo Central High School in 2012. As a Kalamazoo Public Schools graduate, she is eligible for fully paid college tuition through the Kalamazoo Promise scholarship program. "I didn’t know what I wanted to go to school for and now I do," Buchanan said, "you don’t know that right when you come out of high school.”

Football team manager with cognitive impairment realizes dream with TD run

At the end of the first half of Schoolcraft's home game against Watervliet, Nick Ortlieb subbed into the game to score his first touchdown of the season for the Eagles in an untimed down. Ortlieb, the team manager for the Eagles with cognitive impairments, had to take a moment after the game to express his excitement and thank his teammates. Schoolcraft won the game by a final of 54-0.
